Description
This stunning pair of modernist sconces were handblown in Murano, Italy- the island off the coast of Venice renowned for centuries for its superlative glass production- during the latter half of the 20th century. They feature domed and channeled bodies with volumetric oval embellishments at their nadir. Five undulating curvilinear shades- resembling stylized leaves- ascend upwards from the tops of each cupped body. All of the handblown glass has been realized using the Foglio D'Oro technique in which 24kt yellow gold flecks are embedded into translucent Murano glass to a dazzling effect. The resulting glass is sumptuous, full of subtle texture and dynamism. With their impeccable glass quality and clean modernist lines, these sconces are as versatile as they are elegant. They would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Art Deco to contemporary. They have been newly rewired to American standards and are in excellent vintage condition.
