Pair of Mid-20th Century Italian Carved Wood Sconces with Wheat and Floral Motif
-
Description
A striking pair of tall Italian wall sconces, hand-carved in wood and hand-painted in soft, earthy tones. Dating to the mid-20th century, these sculptural pieces are adorned with sheaves of wheat, flowers, fruits, and foliage—symbols of abundance and harvest—carved in high relief and tied together with decorative ribbon detailing.
Each sconce features three candle-style lights: two elegantly curved arms at the top and a single central candleholder below, integrated into the cascading botanical composition. The carving is richly detailed, from tulips and artichokes to clusters of grapes and blooming rosettes. The original polychrome finish has developed a soft patina, adding warmth and charm.
These sconces are not only lighting fixtures but works of art, perfect for bringing an Italianate or French country flair to an entryway, dining room, or grand hallway. -
