Description
Poul Henningsen 'PH 5-4½' White Metal Pendant Lamp for Louis Poulsen.
Executed in spun aluminum and painted matte white, the 'PH 5-4½' pendant was originally designed by Poul Henningsen in 1931, then redesigned in 1979 by Danish architects Sophus Frandsen and Ebbe Christensen. Henningsen sought to use scientific knowledge to create glare-free light and launched the four shade system to increase the amount of light emitted horizontally and to provide greater illumination of walls and shelves in spaces with higher ceilings.
The trumpet-shaped top shade of the 'PH 5-4½' pendant provides illumination of the area above the three lower shades. A base reflector and a blue ring protect against glare from all angles. The strongest light is directly under the fixture. The matte white painted finish ensures even, comfortable lighting over tables, desks, or in hallways.
