Description
Richard Etts (20/21st century) is active/lives in New York, California. Richard Etts is known for body composite sculpture, surrealism, fantasy, life castings.
From his web site:
In 1962 at the age of seventeen I relocated to New York City and accepted various art related jobs allowing me to experience many aspects of the arts. From 1964 – 1965 at the age of nineteen I moved to Madrid, Spain to apprentice molding and casting at the Circulo de Bellas Artes. In 1966 I began creating showroom displays back in New York City for DuPont in the Empire State building as well as for Bloomingdale's and Macy's and window displays for Tiffany & Co. on Fifth Avenue. Then I took commissioned projects for Allied chemical trade shows and window displays for Smirnoff Vodka, Hanes hosiery, Max Factor makeup, Elisabeth Arden, Bulova Watch, Stern Brothers on 42nd Street in NYC and Martex towels. I also freelanced for New York Fashion Group.
During the 60's and 70's I owned a successful design and manufacturing business located in the Lower East side of New York City. My creations included a series of unique lamps crafted into hand sculptures in addition to other designs for home furnishings that could be purchased in Bloomingdale's 59th street store in NYC. Today they are part of the Smithsonian Institute's art collection. In 1990 I received a fellowship grant that allowed me to begin working with a foundry to learn bronze casting. Since then I have produced several bronze sculptures. -
