Description
Italian designers and manufacturers were true pioneers of mid-century lighting design, creating never-before-seen shapes and forms. Leucos, where this lamp was manufactured, was a company that pushed the boundaries of innovative Italian lighting design. Leucos’s collaboration with designers like Roberto Pamio resulted in the development of extraordinary pieces like this Murano glass wall lamp.
Italy is revered for many things: food, wine, coffee, fashion — and in the world of design — lighting. For decades, Italy has set the bar in contemporary lighting, thanks to their forward-thinking pioneers, risk-taking brands, and time-honoured techniques, like Murano glass-blowing. This wall light is special for a couple of reasons besides the obvious visual uniqueness, starting with the material. Murano glass is an art form still handmade by highly skilled master artisans; owning a Murano glass piece therefore also means being a part of a long Venetian tradition. In Italy in the 1970s, wall-to-wall brass, bronze, chrome, and glass started to feature the homes of the stylish elite. It was a break from the oversaturation of more minimalist design of the 1960s. This lamp features a beautiful geometric shape that is very effective in showcasing the juxtaposition between the glass and the metal - a classic example of contrast and harmony. Italian designers’ powerful abilities as architects are reflected in many of the lighting designs of the era, including this piece. The masterful combination of materials, aesthetic and functional design, plus expert craftsmanship is indisputable. The impression of this lamp is fresh with a retro touch, and completely alluring with its dedication to quality and practicality. This wall lamp is sure to bring interest to any flat surface as a piece of design history.
Sconces are timeless lighting fixtures that can easily elevate their surroundings. These lamps never go out of style, and have been in use for centuries. This is especially true for 20th century models like this piece.
