Description
The G1 floor lamp features an embossed metal lampshade with two light sources providing an atmospheric ambient light. It is perfectly balanced by its solid brass ball counterweight and requires only the lightest touch to redirect the light. Designed by Pierre Guariche in 1951 and now produced by Sammode.
Pierre Guariche is one of the most important designers of the French post-war period. Guariche studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and he founded his own design office two years after graduating in 1951. From 1957, he worked as artistic director for the Belgian furniture manufacturer Meurop, designing, for example, futuristic space-age chairs for the brand. However, Guariche is best known for the luminaires he designed, many of which feature details like hidden light sources, perforated metal surfaces and slender leg structures. With their clever constructions, many of his luminaires are great examples of the designer’s endless interest in technological innovation.
Sammode’s commitment to durability, reliability and imposing the smallest possible environmental footprint, puts a keen focus on the most effective materials available. The result of their ingenuity and attention to detail are lighting designs that are robust, functional, inventive and durable.
