Mid-Century Six Arm Black & White Enamel Articulated Chandelier by Serge Mouille
-
Description
Articulating Chandelier in Black and White Enamel with Brass Fittings is made by the esteemed designer and metalworker Serge Mouille, originating from France in 1958. This piece features six slender cylindrical arms, attaching to the canopy parallel to one another, then curving at right angles to expand outwards from the center of the Chandelier. The two longest arms are finished in matte black Enamel with four in matte white enamel, from which distinctive sculptural shades are attached with elegant and high quality rounded brass fittings. Each of the six shades articulate, allowing them to caste light in any direction easily illuminating particular spaces and items. The well balanced composition and use of negative space creates a glamorous tension throughout the piece, each element hovering gracefully and pleasing the eye with elegantly curved and thoughtfully fabricated materials. Serge Mouille began his training as a metallurgist and silversmith at the age of 13, later on expanding to found his own company specilizing in silver utensils. Later in his career he was introduced to the Société des Artistes Décorateurs (The Interior Decorators Society) and expanded his practice into lighting design, known for his smartly rendered minimal forms and brilliant use of materials stemming from his background and knowledge of metalwork. This piece is an excellent example of his practice, a stunning fixture sure to style beautifully in a wide array of spaces and settings, from Mid-Century Modernist to Contemporary and Minimal Interiors.
