Description
This rare ceiling lamp, designed by Svend Aage Holm Sørensen and produced by ASEA in Sweden during the 1950s, exemplifies the mid-century Scandinavian modern design ethos through its harmonious use of teak, brass, and opaline glass. The lamp’s construction features a central teak beam elegantly suspended by brass supports and wires, combining warmth and sophistication in its materiality.
Holm Sørensen was a prolific Danish lighting designer celebrated for his sculptural and experimental approach, often incorporating intricate perforations and organic shapes in his work. His designs played a significant role in defining the bold and expressive character of mid-century Danish lighting. While primarily associated with his own company, Holm Sørensen also collaborated with other notable Scandinavian manufacturers, including ASEA, a Swedish firm known for producing high-quality lighting fixtures.
This ceiling lamp is composed of six opaline glass shades that provide soft, diffused illumination, enhancing the warmth of the teak and brass elements and creating an inviting ambiance. Its dimensions measure 78 centimeters in width, 57 centimeters in depth, and 65 centimeters in height (approximately 30.7 x 22.4 x 25.6 inches), making it a striking yet balanced presence suitable for a variety of interior spaces.
