Description
Ceiling lighting has been used as a decorative focal point for rooms since the early 20th century. In Scandinavian mid-century design, where interior lighting is of particular importance, designers managed to master the art of soft light without blinding or crushing space perception.
This multi-armed ceiling lamp features soft ornamentation and unique, modern curves created from a traditional Swedish aesthetic and with high level of craftsmanship. The brass structure is expertly shaped to serve as a clean canvas for the six fabric lampshades to stand out. The mid-century modern style brought about organic decorative shapes in Sweden, which can be seen in the empire shaped lampshades and sculptural cluster enclosed in a unique bent metal structure. These elements, despite being simple and understated, still catch the eyes, showing the design skill of the creator. In a characteristically Scandinavian manner, the brass body showcases effortless curves aided by a straight pole and canopy. The six brass arms are identical and symmetrical holding cream fabric shades with a textured surface. When lit, they create an ambient look while highlighting the shape and the fabric’s individual qualities. Like most Swedish light fixtures of the era, the overall aesthetic assumes a more minimalist design that illuminates a room with direct light from both the top and of the bottom of the shades.
The subtle decorative qualities stemming from the early 20th century art movements and the simple lines deriving from the inter-war art movements give this Swedish ceiling lamp its elegance. The lovely empire shades, brass cluster ornamentation, and elegant flowing lines of the brass embody Swedish mid-century lighting design that is still highly relevant and coveted today.
