Description
The profoundly influential 20th-century Swedish designers pioneered a style of furniture that was lightweight, floral, and elegant in its simplicity, embodied by this lamp. These designers achieved an elegant combination of practicality and sophistication that was unmatched by many of their contemporaries in other countries.
This three-armed, painted aluminium ceiling lamp’s design is rooted in traditional historic styles, while employing modern details such as the curved arms, coloured glass cluster and floral details. While generally associated with pale colours, the Swedish style has always been more colourful, in fact, the colours Hague Blue and Citron, could be directly found in the Swedish palace’s colour palette. Still, it is rather hard to come by coloured ceiling lights from the era, making this model a rare find with its beautiful blue glass cluster. The heavily curved painted aluminium arms stem from this central and focal point, contrasting with the vivid blue glass. Their airy arrangement leaves plenty of space between the arms to showcase the floral decorative elements, adding organic whimsy to the design. Each arm ends in a shade holder supporting glass shades in the classic tulip shape with thicker lower parts and thin necks. The shape complements the curvature of the arms, while the opaque glass creates a warm light effect when the light is on. To let the focus stay on the cluster, the canopy and straight rod are more restrained, supporting the lamp in its functionality.
With a focus on craftsmanship, materials, and clean lines, the Swedish Modern design philosophy behind this ceiling lamp remains relevant today. The function combined with inspiration from nature in the style creates a warm strain of modernism that is very easy to relate to and continues to appeal to many people.
