Description
This original Hanging Shade by Tiffany Studios, likely designed by Clara Driscoll, incorporates exceptional Tiffany Glass throughout to depict a naturalistic scene of flowering dogwood branches against a clear blue sky.
The conical shade features an asymmetrical composition of dogwood blossoms articulated in “streaky” and “mottled” Tiffany Glass in shades of pink and white which spread across the shade on thin green branches surrounded by mottled green leaves, some with subtle hints of pink. The background is formed by exceptional opalescent Tiffany Glass in a deep shade of blue, accented throughout by gestural streaks of pink and green hinting at the layering of foliage and flower. The shade, with beaded upper and lower rims, retains all of its original hardware including light pole, cluster and bronze chains.
This model of hanging shade is one of the few Tiffany Lamp designs wherein the pattern does not repeat; each side of the shade features a unique arrangement of branches, flowers and leaves.
Examples of this model are in the permanent collections of The New-York Historical (N84.71.1) and The Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Lamps.
This rare original Tiffany Lamp is signed.
