Description
This exceptional original Tiffany lamp is a veritable showcase of Tiffany glass.
Likely designed by head “Tiffany Girl” Clara Driscoll, this 22-inch diameter domed Dogwood shade depicts a repeating pattern of asymmetrical branches, capturing the beauty of the flowering tree at the height of spring. The flowers are articulated in a variety of types of Tiffany glass ranging from dramatic mottled glass in pastel shades of blue, green and opalescent white, to the rare inclusion of “confetti” or “foliage” glass. At the crown of the shade, a series of horizontal border rows shift from deep blue “rippled” glass through shades of green. Along the lower portion of the shade the floral motif is interrupted by two horizontal rows of translucent green “confetti” or “foliage” glass with striations and inclusions in various shades of green, the same glass forming a border row along the bottom edge of the shade.
The shade is paired with a footed Library Standard Table Base with a telescopic stem which allows for the height of the shade to be adjusted, this example in rich brown-green patina. This particular base model features an elaborate reticulated motif, the stem decorated with sculptural details in low relief.
Both the shade and base of this authentic Tiffany lamp are signed.
