Description
Rare “Wild Rose Border” Table Lamp
Tiffany Studios
circa 1910
Introduced by Tiffany Studios around 1910, the rare “Wild Rose Border” shade is part of a series of leaded glass designs for Tiffany Lamps which combine a naturalistic frieze of flowers with a simple patterned or geometric backdrop.
In this example, a meandering motif of wild roses in pale pink and mottled white glass surrounded by a interwoven thorny branches and pointed green leaves stands out against a dramatic background of richly mottled Tiffany Glass that subtly shifts through hues of deep blue and green.
The rarity of this model has led to some debate; though it has been frequently referred to as a “Dogwood Border” Shade, the model number is listed in Tiffany Studios’ 1910 Price List as “Wild Rose Border.”
Here, it is paired with an exceptional patinated bronze “Pineapple” Base with four foliate feet, this example featuring the original blown Favrile Glass in a coordinating shade of vibrant green.
Both the shade and base of this original Tiffany lamp are signed.
