Venini spiral multi-color chandelier made in Venice, 1965, besides the different colors and shapes many have a stippled surface, very unusual model the first i have seen in many years, very few were made all original, a great chandelier. Takes nine incandescent bulbs.

Venini

Venini more than any other symbolizes the collaboration between Murano glass blowers and artists, architects and designers that revolutionized the art of glass making in the 20th century. Paolo Venini embraced modernist trends in art and architecture with their new designs in elegant shapes and colors, established the studio in 1925. Venini also was known for their use of designers to bring new ideas to Murano. Their designers included Napoleon Martinuzzi, Tommaso Buzzi, Carlo Scarpa, Gio Ponti, and Fulvio Bianconi.

Venini took the Murano tradition of glass blowing and combined it with the French fashion industry’s tradition of collaborating with fellow designers. They broke away from the traditional Novecento style based on ancient Roman designs found in oil paintings. Venini took notice of the Muranese glassmaker Napoleone Martinuzzi and offered him the position of Artistic Director, which he would hold until the early 1930’s. Following Martinuzzi, Carlo Scarpa took over artistic director in 1932, and would remain until 1947. Scarpa’s innovative designs were of simple shapes, experimental patterns and coatings including gold and silver foil. He introduced chemicals and metals into the glass mixture during the blowing process, which added texture to the paper-thin vessels.
