Description
Viennese cold-painted bronze sculptural lamp
Austrian, Early 20th Century
Height 27cm, width 22cm, depth 13cm
Made in Austria in the early 20th century, this fine sculptural lamp is an example of a high-quality Viennese cold-painted bronze work of art.
The piece is cast to depict an interesting scene set in an outdoor kitchen. Bricks, bamboo, and textiles are used to create a durable construction of the kitchen. Below the textile roof hangs a bulb that illuminates this Orientalist scene.
Inside stands a green brick fireplace filled with a samovar. The male figure standing next to it appears to be preparing tea for the male sitting on the carpet and the young boy walking away. Traditional Orientalist clothing covers their bodies.
The technique of cold-painting bronze is expertly used in this lamp. The vivid colours create a more realistic scene and encourage one to closely observe the fine bronze details.
Beautifully made using a complex technique, this Viennese sculptural lamp will make a magnificent addition to one’s collection.
