Description
An early and one-of-a-kind Willem Hendrik Gispen wrought iron pendant lamp with a glass shade and silk fringes underneath.
This is a design from the period before Gispen became widely known for his Bauhaus style Modernist designs. Gispen started out as an art smithy of decorative wrought iron fences, ornaments and fireplace guards in Rotterdam. This design still shows strong influences from the Amsterdam School and the Arts & Crafts movement. At this time (around 1915) he still worked at the Kunstsmederij Rotterdam, where he started and later took over and renamed it to Kunstsmederij W. H. Gispen & co. -
