19th Century Rustic Black Forest Mirror, Hand Carved, Austria, circa 1880
-
Description
Extraordinary rustic Black Forest wall mirror from the late 19th century in Austria. Elaborately handcarved out of fine basswood, this exceptional antique mirror shows an amazing rural design: a doubled frame in the manner of tree branches with slightly protruding corners additionally adorned by a beautiful carved leaf in the top center. Another highlight builds the narrow outer frame which connects in each corner. An unusual example of a Black Forest mirror stained in a very dark brown almost black looking tone that perfectly fits to the unique look of this late 19th century rustic wall mirror. The mirror plate has been renewed during the restoration process.
