Description
Cristal Art elegant large rectangular wall mirror in rose-tinted mirrored glass, clear mirrored glass and warm copper-toned metal, Turin, Italy, 1950s.
This sculptural mirror is composed of a large arched central mirror surrounded by individually cut panels of rose-colored mirrored glass arranged within a rectangular outer frame. The upper panels radiate outward above the arch, giving the composition a subtle architectural quality, while slender metal divisions and circular fittings articulate the individual glass elements. The softly arched central mirror set within the rectangular frame gives the design a balanced, architectural quality. The warm patina of the metal framework complements the rose-colored glass beautifully. The mirror retains its period wood backing.
The surrounding mirrored glass shifts subtly with the light from soft pink to deeper rose-gold tones. This sophisticated use of colored mirrored glass is characteristic of Cristal Art's postwar production, when the Turin-based company became known for specialized cutting, polishing and silvering techniques used to create richly colored reflective surfaces.
An elegant and distinctive example of Cristal Art's 1950s production, distinguished by its architectural composition, beautiful rose coloration and refined geometric detailing. -
