Federal Mirror with Patriotic Eglomise Tablet
American, ca. 1800.
Gilded wood, gesso, Verre églomisé, mirror plate.
Over-all in fine condition, retaining eglomise tablet, original backboards. Replaced mirror plate.
Provenance: The Estate of Helen Elliot Scott.
In a desirable compact size, the molded cornice with applied balls above a tablet and mirror plate flanked by columns with roping. The verre églomisé tablet depicting The Great Seal of the United States within a central medallion with blue field, radiating undulating rays of silver that are repeated in each corner as quarter-round fans.
