French 19th Century Empire Painted & Gilt Trumeau Mirror

Dimensions: 73 ½” H x 39 ½” W x 3 ¼” D

A large 19th-century French Empire-style trumeau mirror that is bold yet refined. Its frame is topped with a gold-gilt cornice, and the upper panel features a gold urn flocked by two parcel-gilt pegasuses. These design elements are in perfect keeping with the Empire style’s preference for classical motifs, and they shine against their weathered French grey backing. The gilded frame surrounding the original mirror plate is adorned with anthemions, rosettes, and a lamb’s tongue border. The mirror plate is in good condition. There is heavy foxing throughout, consistent with age, but the reflection is mostly clear. This mirror would work perfectly above a mantle or on a wall in need of decoration. Gently cleaned and ready to hang in your interiors. We believe this to be in good antique condition, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
