French 19th Century Louis Philippe Painted Bistro Mirror

$ 5,500
  • Description
    Dimensions: 46 ¾” H x 78 ½” W x 1 ⅝” D

    A cheerful piece of history and architecture, this enormous Louis Philippe style mirror dating to the late 19th century was originally part of the decor in a French bistro. Arched corners round out the wide, rectangular form of the painted frame; as found, the likely gold gilt finish was covered in a wash of burnt orange paint more recently. Where the paint has chipped off to reveal the wood underneath one might notice a carved foliate pattern–typical of the Louis Philippe style–with other areas of patina that contribute to the overall artistic flair of the mirror. The original mirror plate is speckled with several constellations of foxing and dark oxidation that unifies the overall effect to make an eyecatching statement in any interior.
