French Early 20th Century Églomisé Mirror
-
Description
Dimensions: 27 ¼” H x 20” W x 1 ⅜” D
An exceptional French gilt and églomisé mirror from the turn of the century (early 1900s), like a cushion mirror with multiple, narrow strips of emerald green mirror glass pieced to form the border around the central plate. Above, a triangular pediment of églomisé mirror is animated by an illustration of a chariot and driver pulled by two horses that could have been taken straight from ancient Greece. Random patches of dark foxing underneath the glass is a mesmerizing counterpoint to the architectural formality of the shape, outlined with gold gilt trim.
