Mid-century Italian Large Shield Shaped Brass Wall Mirror

Elegant midcentury Italian shield shaped wall mirror in brass, Italy, 1950s.

The mirror has a tall, gently tapered silhouette, widening toward the top and framed by a slender molded brass frame with softly rounded corners. A subtle concave curve across the upper edge gives the otherwise restrained form a distinctive sculptural quality.

The elegant tapering profile and softly curved upper line are characteristic of Italian mirror design of the period and recall the shaped forms used by Gio Ponti in his celebrated brass mirrors. The simplicity of the construction places particular emphasis on proportion and silhouette, while the warm naturally aged brass lends the piece a refined decorative presence.
