Description
Elegant mid-century Italian modernist shaped wall mirror in brass with beveled glass, in the style of Gio Ponti, Italy, 1950s.
The mirror has a distinctive tapered silhouette, broadening toward the top and narrowing toward the base. Both the upper and lower edges curve gently inward, while softly rounded corners and subtly bowed sides create a graceful sculptural form. This elegant shield-like profile is characteristic of Italian mid-century mirror design and recalls the curvilinear forms made iconic by Gio Ponti.
The original mirror plate is finished with a wide beveled border that follows the contours of the frame, adding depth and refinement to the otherwise restrained composition. The warm brass surround retains a softly aged patina, beautifully complementing the original glass, which displays scattered areas of age-related silver loss consistent with its period. The mirror retains its original wood backing and hanging structure.
A lovely example of Italian mid-century design, combining clean modernist lines with elegant, finely balanced proportions. Its understated yet distinctive silhouette gives the mirror a strong decorative presence while allowing it to integrate easily into both contemporary and traditional interiors.
