Description
Pair of Louis Philippe period carved and gilt-wood pier mirrors in the Louis XVI style, each with a carved neoclassical urn with rams' head handles standing on a draped lambrequin and flanked by leaves, scrolls and beads trailing to the outset corners with leaves and volutes; the lower portion with scrolling acanthus leaves and rosettes; the original mirror plate within a crisp leaf-and-dart molding with a beaded inner edge.
Overall: 78.5" x 45"
Glass: 63" x 35"
These gorgeous mirrors boast their original gilding. Over the years it's naturally worn to the red bole in many places, resulting in a soft, rich patina. The photos scarcely do it justice. The mirror plates and wooden backs are also original. Repairs to some of the lower scrolls. -
