Description
Pair of Spanish Rococo Carved and Gilded Wood Mirrors, circa 1760
A wonderful and charming pair of Spanish Rococo period carved and gilded wood wall mirrors. Exquisitely hand-carved and with original gilding and mirror glass plates; with original wood backing. With openwork ornamentation, the frame is elaborately carved with flowers, scrollwork, and rocaille motifs. Some mirrors of this style originated as girandole or wall sconces, with mounts for candle branches. Mirrors of this period and style were intended for intimate rooms, designed to amplify candlelight in otherwise dark interiors. These mirrors would be a highly unique and interesting addition to any interior style.
