1940s Plaster Mirror in the manner of Serge Roche

$ 2,500
  • Description
    Dating from the 1940s, this beautiful, cream, stucco mirror in the manner of Serge Roche shows perfectly the three design elements of which he never tired: Mirrors, Stucco, and Curves.
    The bevelled reflections of the mirrored glass are placed in conversation with their opposite in the matte volumes of the stucco frame. Where one leads light and the eye back out, the other arrests both as they touch its surface. And informing this surface are the curves which allowed Roche to craft a language of his own in a period of exceptional design. Drawing from a unique register of arabesques, volutes and scrollwork inspired by his deep knowledge of Rococo and Baroque furniture and interiors, Roche brought the shapes of vegetation and shells forward into a style we can see here: with echoes of history, yet modern, decorative, and irresistibly proportioned.
