Description
An exceptional and rare Murano glass table or vanity mirror designed by Carlo Scarpa for Venini, executed in the elegant and highly collectible Treccia (braided) glass technique, Italy, 1940s.
This iconic mid-century design features a thick, clear blown Murano glass frame intricately formed in a braided motif, culminating in a softly arched crest. The substantial glass surround is complemented by a refined brass inner frame and mounts, creating a harmonious interplay between transparency, structure, and warm metallic detail. The mirrored plate is supported by its original wood backing and a brass easel stand, allowing for tabletop or dressing table display. Signed with impressed manufacturer's mark to reverse, "VENINI MURANO".
Scarpa’s work for Venini in the 1930s–1940s represents a pivotal moment in 20th-century Italian design, merging modernist clarity with artisanal Murano craftsmanship. Mirrors of this model are increasingly scarce and highly sought after by collectors of Italian mid-century design. A sculptural and functional work of art that embodies luxury, elegance, and architectural precision. This mirror reflects Scarpa’s sophisticated blend of modernist restraint and Art Deco sensibility, combining luxurious materials with impeccable craftsmanship. Its sculptural quality, paired with practical elegance, makes it a highlight for collectors of Italian design and Murano glass. -
