Rare Murano Crystal Glass Bottle with Stopper by Carlo Scarpa

$ 6,200
  • Description
    Designed by Carlo Scarpa for Venini, this rare and exquisite Murano crystal glass bottle with its original matching spherical stopper was created in Italy circa 1937. An exceptional example from Scarpa's celebrated A Puntini ("dotted") series, the bottle is executed in brilliantly clear, highly iridized crystal and decorated with large applied opaque white lattimo dots that appear to float effortlessly within the transparent glass, creating a refined interplay of light, depth, and geometry.

    Gracefully proportioned, the bottle features a softly rounded rectangular body with gently sloping shoulders, a short cylindrical neck, and a substantial spherical crystal stopper. The restrained monochromatic palette emphasizes the purity of its sculptural form, while the delicate contrast between transparent crystal and opaque lattimo decoration exemplifies Scarpa's pioneering experimentation with traditional Venetian glassmaking techniques during his tenure as artistic director of Venini.

    First introduced at the 1937 Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques in Paris and subsequently exhibited at the XXI Venice Biennale in 1938, the A Puntini series represents one of Scarpa's most sophisticated explorations of form, surface, and optical effect. This bottle beautifully demonstrates the elegance and technical innovation that distinguish his early work for Venini and has become one of the most sought-after decorative objects from this important period.

    An exceptionally refined and highly collectible work of early twentieth-century Murano glass, this rare bottle is equally compelling as a sculptural object, a work of decorative art, or an important addition to a serious collection of Carlo Scarpa or Venini glass.
