Victorian Mahogany Vanity or Shaving Table Top Swivel Mirror. English Circa 1865
-
Description
Unique Victorian table top (cheval type) swivel mirror, that would have been on top of a dresser and used by a lady as a vanity mirror to tend to her “make up” and hair; or by a gentleman to be used for shaving, combing hair, and “tidying up”.
Made of mahogany, and of English manufacture, circa 1865, the mirror swivels and is adjustable by turning the two knobs to each side of the mirror stand. The drawer in front is, similarly, of figured mahogany and would have been used to store basic coifing articles and “necessaires”.
The condition is very good and in all original condition with a lovely patina to the surface, albeit, there is a three inch line of veneer separation to the surface of the side panel; continues one inch on the top surface; more than likely a result that coincides with shrinkage of the underlying wood; typical of 150 year antique. It is nothing structural; mainly an aesthetic and visual thing (see image). This is a unique item, with free shipping, that is priced competitively with similar table top mirrors in the market place.
