A fine period Gustavian sofa dating to circa 1780, retaining its original painted surface, carefully scraped back to reveal the authentic historic finish. Crafted in pine, this sofa exemplifies the restrained elegance of Swedish Gustavian design, with clean architectural lines, balanced proportions, and subtle carved detailing throughout the frame. The gently tapered legs and delicately ornamented crest rail reflect the neoclassical influence prevalent in late 18th-century Sweden, inspired by French Louis XVI forms yet executed with Nordic simplicity.

The original paint shows a beautifully aged patina, with soft wear and tonal variation that speak to the piece’s age and authenticity rather than restoration. The upholstered seat and back provide a refined contrast to the painted wood, making the sofa both visually striking and functional.
