A Charming pair of birds eye maple and amaranth inlaid X-form stools

Measurements
Height: 17 1/2" (44cm); Width: 19 3/4" (50cm); Depth: 15 3/4 in (40cm).
Research:
Of birds eye maple with amaranth inlay. Each surmounted by (differing) upholstered saddle seats, attached to a scroll ended frieze with classical vegetal inlay. The X-form bases, with in-curved toes, are centered by inlaid raised paterae. Each identical X-end united by a turned stretcher.

An important North American collection.

The design of the stools is exceptionally sophisticated: the supporting profile of the saddle seat resembles an Ionic column capital with typical anthemion inlay issuing from the volutes. A further notable feature are the in-curved toes which impart an air of charm and polite informality.
