Description
This set of armchairs, designed by Gerard Wijnen for a Bossche School residence in the Netherlands during the 1980s, reflects a rigorous architectural approach to furniture design. The composition is defined by strict geometry, right angles, and a disciplined use of proportion, resulting in a structure that is both functional and spatially coherent. Constructed from solid wood, the chairs emphasize planar surfaces and linear connections, where each element serves a clear structural purpose.
The Bossche School, rooted in the theoretical framework developed by Dom Hans van der Laan, sought harmony through proportion and spatial order. Furniture designed within this context was conceived as an extension of architecture rather than as independent objects. Wijnen’s work aligns closely with these principles, translating architectural discipline into a reduced and carefully balanced form. The resulting chairs carry a quiet presence, where restraint and precision define their character. Sold individually. -
