Description
An elegant armchair and ottoman designed by Carlo Hauner in 1950s Brazil—an expression of early Brazilian Modernism where European training meets tropical material intelligence. Defined by its gently flared backrest and sculptural, curved arms, the armchair rests on four delicate hardwood legs that lend visual lightness to its generous proportions.
The matching ottoman mirrors the same refined vocabulary, crafted in solid hardwood and upholstered in supple leather. In keeping with the original spirit of the piece, the set has been reupholstered in a tone closely aligned with documented vintage examples, preserving its historical character while elevating its presence for contemporary interiors. The original internal spring system remains intact, ensuring both structural integrity and enduring comfort.
Balanced between softness and structure, this set captures Hauner’s nuanced understanding of proportion and material—where leather, wood, and craftsmanship converge in a composition that is both inviting and architecturally resolved. A rare and sophisticated pairing, ideal for collectors of Brazilian mid-century design seeking authenticity, comfort, and timeless form. -
