Brazilian Modern Credenza in Imbuia Wood & Chrome by JD Móveis, Brazil

$ 17,500
  • Description
    An exceptionally sculptural Brazilian Modern credenza produced by JD Móveis during the height of Brazil’s design renaissance in the 1960s. Executed in richly figured imbuia — one of Brazil’s most prized tropical hardwoods — the piece embodies the refined architectural sensibility that defined the country’s most important modernist interiors of the era.

    The composition is anchored by a beautifully balanced façade featuring three cabinet doors and four central drawers, each adorned with the iconic bow-tie handles associated with some of the most recognizable Brazilian modern furniture designs of the period, including examples seen in Novo Rumo productions. The rhythmic curvature of the pulls introduces a sculptural softness to the otherwise rigorous geometry, creating a striking interplay between line, shadow, and proportion.

    Raised on elegant chrome and hardwood pedestal supports, the credenza appears visually suspended — a hallmark of sophisticated Brazilian case furniture from the 1960s. The warm tone and dense grain movement of the imbuia lend exceptional depth and richness throughout, while the long horizontal silhouette makes the piece particularly well suited for contemporary New York interiors where scale, functionality, and presence must coexist effortlessly.

    Its proportions allow it to function equally well as a dining credenza, media cabinet, or statement storage piece behind a floating sofa in a townhouse or apartment setting. The restrained footprint paired with generous internal storage reflects the intelligent, space-conscious approach that made Brazilian Modernism so enduringly relevant.

    The wood has been professionally restored and presents beautifully with a refined satin finish that highlights the natural character of the imbuia. The chrome retains its original vintage patina and remains in very good condition, preserving the authenticity and historical integrity of the piece.

    A rare and highly usable example of Brazilian Modern storage furniture — sophisticated, architectural, and unmistakably emblematic of 1960s Brazilian design culture.
