Description
Eames DCM Chair by Charles & Ray Eames for Evans Products Company
An early and highly collectible example of American modern design, this Eames DCM (Dining Chair Metal) was produced by the Evans Products Company, marking one of the first manufacturing partnerships of Charles and Ray Eames. These early Evans-era chairs are prized for their experimentation with molded plywood and their role in shaping the future of modern furniture.
The DCM features a sculptural molded plywood seat and back, carefully shaped to cradle the body with surprising comfort. The seat and back are mounted on slender metal legs, creating the signature light, architectural profile that defines the DCM. This example retains the refined proportions and understated elegance that made the design revolutionary when it was introduced in 1946.
Produced before the later Herman Miller editions, Evans Production DCMs represent a formative chapter in Eames history—when innovation, material exploration, and wartime manufacturing techniques converged. Today, these chairs are increasingly difficult to find and are considered investment-grade pieces for serious collectors.
Equally at home around a dining table, in an office, or as a standalone accent, the Eames DCM remains a timeless expression of form meeting function—an icon of modern design that continues to feel fresh nearly eight decades later. -
