Eames Executive "Time-Life" Chair by Charles & Ray Eames for Herman Miller
-
Description
The great portfolio of Charles & Ray Eames is widely celebrated and serves as a model of inspiration for designers to this day. A momentous chapter in said portfolio is devoted to an important commission the Eames’ team received to design furniture for the Time Life Building in New York City which included a series of tables and most important; the Eames “Time Life” Executive Chair.
The Eames’ intentions were to capture the comfort of their popular Eames lounge chair in a more streamlined fashion using lessons learned from their Aluminum Group range. The shown model is the earliest of the suite. This iteration chair features a swivel base equipped with tilt and height adjustment, perfect for achieving optimal comfort. While Herman Miller continues to produce a contemporary version of this Classic design, this shown 4-star base is often more desirable than the new base produced today.
Pieces of this age, let alone Eames Time-Life Executive Chairs, are rarely seen in this great condition. The original Black leather is just as rich as it was in its day. There as minor occurrences of wear from use as shown in our photography, such as a small affected area at the piping on one armrest, however it is not anywhere near the wear we would expect to see from a piece forty-plus years old. The foam in all five upholstered portions of the chair remain firm and plush, nowhere is there dryness or lack of support. The aluminum hardware is mirror polished from the factory with minor wear as expected with age. Overall, this Eames Time-Life Executive Chair is a preserved design artifact, ready for yet another life. -

Stories exist in many forms, we see them in objects. The aesthetic of those before us is passed down through their surviving creations. These are the objects we search for; to preserve, refine, & continue the story. Object Refinery combines design obsession, fine craftsmanship, and a love for history in our worldwide search for objects. Based in Connecticut, USA; we partner with a network of local artisans to restore and refine our findings before passing them on to the next collector.
