Yellow Eero Aarnio Iconic Pastilli 'Pastille' Chair, Fibreglass Asko, 1960s

Eero Aarnio's Pastilli chair is a colorful, playful and a genious design by one of the Finnish design giants of our times. With it's shiny colour it looks almost like a giant candy. The curves and shape were quite unusual and avant garde at the time. This item is from the 1960s with the 2 small holes in the back (refer to pictures please ) that were typical with the very early models of this chair.

Aarnio intended this to be a rocking chair yet sitting in it is quite comfortable which also makes it a playful armchair. Aarnio designed the center of gravity in such a way that the chair rocks slightly, not excessively in any intended direction. This chair was awarded by the American Institute of Interior Designers in 1968 with an International Designers award.

Eero Aarnio, born in 1932, is a Finnish designer and professor who is considered by many as one of the pioneers and innovators in modern furniture design. Aarnio experimented and used a wide variety of materials such as plastic and fiberglass. He has created quite a few classics in Finnish modern design as the Ball chair, Bubble chair and Pastilli, most of these designed in the 1960s. Aarnio's works xan be found in a number of prestigious museums such as the MoMa N.Y. and Victoria and Albert Hall in London. Aarnio has also won a number of prestigious design awards such as the Red Hot Design award.
