This French Directoire period armchair expresses the restrained elegance and timeless grace that distinguishes the style, it would be the perfect addition to any seating arrangement. The comfortable, oak-framed chair dates to circa 1800 France, a period of transition both in politics and aesthetic tastes which is exhibited in the silhouette of gentle curves and variety of carved motifs. The arm terminal has a subtle, dolphin silhouette that flows into stylized floral carvings in the dies at the tops of the front legs. Luxurious, peacock green velvet upholstery features alternating stripes of foliate jacquard that is in good condition and the internal structure remains firm and comfortable for continued, occasional use. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
