Description
Designed by Giuseppe Scapinelli, this armchair exemplifies the expressive style language that Scapinelli is known for. Crafted in Painted Hardwood, the piece reflects a moment when seating was conceived as both functional furniture and sculptural presence, emphasizing clarity of structure and material discipline.
The design is defined by a tall, gently reclined back articulated by five vertical wooden rods, creating a rhythmic framework that introduces lightness and tension. Two elegantly curved arms extend outward, evoking a wing-like silhouette while reinforcing the chair’s sense of lift and enclosure. Slender legs and a continuous lower stretcher anchor the composition, establishing structural clarity without visual weight.
The wood has been finished in a deep ebony tone, emphasizing line and contour over grain. Upholstery has been newly reupholstered in red velvet, chosen for its tonal depth and tactile contrast with the darkened frame. Function is fully integrated: generous proportions and a supportive back provide comfort within a rigorously resolved form.
Presented in excellent vintage condition, this armchair stands as a refined and widely documented example of Brazilian modern seating, valued for its sculptural intelligence and enduring material integrity. -
