Four-Seat Sofa in Brazilian Rosewood with Sculpted Back, JD Moveis, 1960s

$ 35,000
  • Description
    A refined expression of Brazilian modernism, this four-seat sofa pairs architectural clarity with exceptional material warmth. Crafted in richly grained Brazilian rosewood—its base reveals a luminous honey-caramel tone with subtle red undertones, presented in a satin matte finish that emphasizes the natural depth and movement of the wood. The structure is low and elongated, with precise joinery and a disciplined horizontal line that anchors the piece with quiet authority.

    The back is sculptural and thoughtfully articulated, offering a duality of views: a composed, upholstered front with restrained tufting, and a rhythmic, open slatted reverse that introduces lightness and visual texture. This interplay reflects a distinctly Brazilian sensibility—where form, craftsmanship, and comfort converge.

    The upholstery is executed in a high-quality bouclé, selected for both tactility and refinement. The tone sits within a warm putty / soft taupe range, carrying subtle beige undertones—never reading grey or yellow. The fabric features a dense, tight loop construction that feels elevated and controlled rather than overly nubby. Cushions have been subtly enhanced in volume (+5–8%), creating a more inviting, plush sit while maintaining crisp tailoring. Tufting remains shallow and precise, lending a quiet sense of luxury without visual heaviness. Edges are clean yet softly rounded, reinforcing the balance between structure and comfort.

    Generous in scale, the sofa comfortably accommodates four, making it equally suited to residential interiors and gallery-style settings. From every angle, it presents as a fully resolved design—sculptural, grounded, and materially rich—embodying the sophistication of mid-century Brazilian craftsmanship.
