1940s Habitant, Bay City MI, Knotty Pine Captain’s Chairs, Set of 6

Back in the 1940s, Habitant Bay City in Michigan was not trying to keep up with delicate trends. They were making thick, honest, knotty pine furniture built to survive generations of chaotic dinner parties. The company was a legendary Michigan maker that carved out its own lane in American cabin classics right alongside Old Hickory.

This set of six captain’s-style armchairs is peak quality: solid pine seats, curved barrel backs, thick spindle supports, and sturdy swept legs. No prissy pretense, no delicate joinery you are afraid to sit on—this is furniture built to survive a heavy farmhouse table, a rowdy poker night, and several decades of somebody’s uncle leaning back way too far. The tenon joinery is absolute perfection.

Each chair is stamped Bay City Michigan on the underside alongside a factory stock stamp, so there is zero guessing on the pedigree—it is stamped right into the wood.
