Description
Available now is an absolutely stunning lounge chair by Hans Wegner for A.P. Stolen, Denmark, 1950's AP-19, with matching ottoman AP-29. A truly iconic chair, Hans Wegner designed in 1951 for A.P Stolen. This chair is quite substantial and is upholstered in a fine, muted olive green leather that makes the teak paws and legs really pop.
Aside from a Finn Juhl chieftain chair, I personally can't think of a more iconic Danish design. The quality and craftsmanship of the framing of these chairs is so impressive and second to none.
These chairs, while definitely mid century modern, are timeless, iconic pieces of functional art that would look incredible in almost any contemporary environment. They would effortlessly blend into modern, regency and even traditional decor.
This chair and ottoman have been reupholstered, and refinished. Photos pre-reupholstery are available upon request.
The Papa Bear Chair, also known as the Teddy Bear Chair, was designed by Hans Wegner in 1951. The chair is named for its large, welcoming form, which is reminiscent of a bear's embrace.
The Papa Bear Chair is characterized by its curved backrest, which extends up and around the sides of the chair to create armrests that are both comfortable and supportive. The chair's seat is also curved and angled slightly downward, creating a comfortable and relaxed sitting position.
This chair would look incredible in any mid century modern, modern or contemporary home. When choosing the leather, we really tried to lean into the chairs masculinity and the only thing missing from this tableau are a glass of whiskey and a great cigar.
The chair is currently in the gallery alongside a Vladimir Kagan cloud sofa, and a Poul Henningsen lounge and not only does this chair make a statement, it really steals the show. A truly iconic collector's piece. -
