Description
3rd Generation Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman – Rosewood & Original Black Leather
An icon of 20th-century design, this vintage 3rd Generation Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman in Brazilian rosewood and original black leather exemplifies timeless luxury and comfort. Designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller, this set remains one of the most sought-after and enduring pieces of modern furniture.
The rich rosewood veneer is what truly sets this piece apart. Known for its deep, expressive grain and warm, reddish-brown hue, Brazilian rosewood was used during the earlier years of Eames production and is now highly prized for its beauty and rarity. Due to environmental protections, Brazilian rosewood is no longer harvested today, making authentic vintage examples like this one increasingly scarce and collectible.
The chair retains its original supple black leather, which has aged beautifully with a deep, inviting patina and subtle creasing that speaks to its authenticity. The rosewood shells exhibit striking grain variation and color depth, making each panel uniquely expressive and warm. Paired with its original ottoman, the set offers ergonomic support and iconic style, ideal for both display and everyday use.
Rosewood versions of the Eames Lounge are especially prized due to their limited availability—Brazilian rosewood was banned from export in the early 1990s, making earlier examples like this increasingly rare. This chair not only represents masterful American modernism but also a piece of design history that can no longer be reproduced.
This is a 3rd Generation model, retaining the early construction and proportions that collectors love, while featuring the refined build quality Herman Miller is known for. Ideal for design lovers, collectors, and those looking to invest in a functional heirloom piece.
Perfect for collectors, architects, or anyone seeking a centerpiece with design pedigree and presence.
