Description
This rare shell easy chair was designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by the Danish cabinetmaker Christensen & Larsen in the 1950s. The chair embodies key elements of Scandinavian modernism, featuring an organic form combined with meticulous craftsmanship. Its sculpted teak backrest is smoothly curved to provide ergonomic support, creating a striking contrast with the lighter beech frame that emphasizes the chair’s structural clarity and elegance. The tapered legs, finished with darker feet, contribute to the piece’s refined and balanced aesthetic.
The seat has been newly reupholstered in Kvadrat Hallingdal wool fabric, a premium textile valued for its durability and tactile quality, which complements the warm tones of the wood. This pairing enhances both comfort and visual appeal.
Measuring 55 centimeters in width (21.7 inches), 62 centimeters in depth (24.4 inches), 75 centimeters in height (29.5 inches), with a seat height of 40 centimeters (15.7 inches), the chair presents a harmonious balance of form, function, and materiality representative of mid-century Danish design.
