Italian Early 19th-Century Mahogany Sofa with Bronze Mounts
-
Description
Refined small Italian sofa in solid carved mahogany, dating to the early 19th century. The form is restrained yet graceful, with a gently curved back and well-balanced silhouette. The legs are shaped in the truncated-pyramid profile typical of the period, each resting on small bases with lost-wax cast bronze mounts — a subtle but important indicator of quality craftsmanship. The piece has been newly reupholstered in a two-tone linen in white and soft gray, offering a fresh, quiet elegance that complements the warmth of the mahogany.
Its scale is especially appealing: large enough to anchor a sitting area, yet small enough to work beautifully in a bedroom, study, entryway, or at the foot of a bed. The overall effect is sophisticated without being formal, offering a refined presence that blends comfortably in both classical and contemporary interiors.
Italian manufacture, early 19th century.
