Description
Visually, this sofa represents modernism by rejecting the common design choices of the past, yet still managing to preserve the uniqueness of handmade pieces well into the 20th century. Wicker has a place in almost every setting, traditional or modern. It is a grounding force that makes everything feel a bit more at ease.
While modernism was a time of mass production in the many parts of the world, its Italian contemporary stood for something different. Though the advent of new materials like plastic and fibreglass revolutionised the production process, Italian designers still valued craft over industrialisation and prized traditional materials. This sentiment is clearly visible in the design of this sofa, manifesting the perfectly sculpted body from the most organic material there is: wicker. This delightfully eccentric model is quite simplistic in its form. The quality handwoven wicker makes it an outstanding example of woven furniture from the 1960s in Italy. This piece features a classic design with rounded edges and an airy feel. The flowing lines of the frame and seat are visually striking, and paired with the organic material, give it an understated elegance. With its curved arms and back, this sofa is perfect to break the rigour of any space, keeping the elegant appearance. The round edges are further accentuated by the woven pattern of the wicker.
The outstanding visual characteristic of this sofa is both traditional and modern, which is simply timeless. This is precisely the charm of Italian mid-century pieces, the effortless style paired with the highest quality of materials and craftsmanship.
