Description
Rare Dutch Modernist chair designed by architect Jan de Jong in 1961 for the boardroom of the Town Hall of Budel, the Netherlands. Only twelve examples were ever produced. The chair was conceived entirely according to the principles of Dom Hans van der Laan's Plastic Number, the proportional system that forms the foundation of the Bossche School. Its restrained geometry, architectural clarity and harmonious proportions reflect De Jong's uncompromising approach to design and his close adherence to Van der Laan's theories.
Jan de Jong is widely regarded as one of the leading figures of the Bossche School, leaving behind an important architectural legacy in which proportion, materiality and timeless simplicity play a central role.
With its documented provenance, exceptionally limited production and strong architectural significance, this chair represents a rare and highly collectible example of post-war Dutch modernist design. -
