Description
Crafted in 1941 by pioneering French designer Jean Prouvé, these rare chairs “Tout Bois” stand as a testament to wartime ingenuity and refined industrial craftsmanship. The name “Tout Bois”, literally “All Wood”, reveals its defining characteristic: these chairs are made entirely from wood, a solution born from the scarcity of metal during the war years.
Unlike most of Prouvé’s works, which often feature a mix of metal and wood, the "Tout Bois" chair foregoes screws or visible joinery, instead utilizing precise carpentry and structural logic to ensure strength and durability. Its distinctive silhouette, with gently tapered legs and a broad curved backrest, echoes the iconic form of his “Standard” chair, a more widely known model that employed metal back legs. Each chair features a warm, honey-colored patina, original and beautifully preserved. Priced per piece. -
