SUITE OF FEDERAL ARMCHAIRS MADE FOR JAMES BEEKMAN
Made by John Banks, 66 Beekman Street, New York City 1819-1820
One Sofa and Eight Chairs Upholstered by William Denny, New York City
Primary wood: Mahogany
Secondary wood: Tulip, Ash
Height: 37 1/2 inches
Width: 21 inches
Depth: 21 1/2 inches
Provenance: The armchairs were made in 1819 and 1820 for James Beekman Jr’s New York house and descended in the Beekman family until acquired by our firm.
Reference: Illustrated in Esther Singleton, The Furniture of our Forefathers, page 282 with a discussion on pages 289-290.
Exhibited: The suite was formerly on loan to the New York Historical Society.
